Suria Code learning environment

Our story

Learning that grows with you, not ahead of you

We started Suria Code because we kept meeting curious people in Malaysia who wanted to understand AI — but felt overwhelmed by fast-paced courses that seemed designed for someone else.

― Our founding ―

A school shaped around the learner, not the syllabus

Suria Code opened in Kuala Lumpur in 2021, born from a simple observation: many people in Malaysia had the curiosity and aptitude for AI work, but the available training options either moved too fast or required a full-time commitment most adults couldn't manage alongside work and family.

The founding team — developers and educators who had worked across the tech sector in Malaysia and the region — decided to build something different. A school where the learning environment itself was considered carefully. Where cohorts stayed small enough that no question got lost in the crowd. Where recordings meant a late evening after a busy day didn't mean falling behind.

The name Suria means "sun" in Malay. It felt right for a school built around the idea of steady, consistent warmth rather than sudden intense heat. Growth in a garden does not happen in a single afternoon — it happens day by day, with the right conditions.

Since opening, Suria Code has taken several hundred learners from their first lines of Python through to deploying neural networks in real applications. Some went on to new roles in data and software. Others simply became more capable and confident in the work they were already doing.

Mission

To make AI development skills accessible to working adults in Malaysia through structured, mentor-supported programmes that respect how learning actually happens — gradually, with space for questions.

Vision

A Malaysia where more developers, analysts, and builders have the tools to work confidently with AI — not just use it as a black box, but understand and shape it.

Values

Patience over pressure. Clarity over complexity. Small groups over mass enrolment. Honest feedback over empty encouragement. We say what a programme can and cannot do for you, and we try to match you with the right one.

― The people ―

Who tends the garden

A small, dedicated team of developers, educators, and mentors based in Kuala Lumpur.

NN

Nurul Najwa

Lead Instructor & Co-founder

A machine learning engineer with ten years of industry experience. Nurul built the curriculum structure and runs the deep learning track. She has a particular interest in helping learners understand the intuition behind model behaviour, not just the mechanics.

RA

Ruzaini Azlan

Python & Foundations Mentor

Ruzaini leads the beginning track and is known for making abstract ideas land with concrete, local examples. He spent several years teaching secondary-level programming before moving into professional developer education, and that background shapes how he explains the basics.

SW

Siti Wahida

ML Track Mentor & Curriculum Reviewer

Siti brings a data science background from the financial sector. She mentors on the machine learning track and reviews the written feedback learners receive on their projects. Her focus is on grounding course content in situations learners might actually encounter at work.

― How we work ―

Standards we hold to in every programme

Practical curriculum design

Every module is reviewed to ensure it produces a working outcome — a script, a trained model, a deployment step. Content without a practical application does not stay in the syllabus long.

Written mentor feedback

Project submissions receive written notes from a human mentor — not a rubric score alone. We describe what worked, what could be refined, and what to try next. Feedback is delivered within three working days.

Data privacy care

Learner data is used only for programme delivery and communication. We do not share personal information with third parties for marketing and comply with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010.

Regular content review

AI tools and libraries change quickly. We review programme content every six months and update exercises and reading materials when a significant shift has occurred in the relevant tools or frameworks.

Secure learning platform

Course materials, exercise environments, and communication channels are hosted on platforms chosen for reliability and access control. Learner work is not shared publicly without explicit consent.

Honest enrolment guidance

Before a learner joins a track, we ask about their background. If we think a different starting point would serve them better, we say so. We would rather redirect someone than see them struggle in the wrong programme.

― Our approach ―

AI education in Malaysia, considered carefully

Suria Code operates from Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, a neighbourhood known for its energy and accessibility. Being centrally located matters to us because we believe some learning is best done in person — even when programmes have remote-friendly components, the option to come in, sit with a mentor, and work through a problem at a whiteboard is something we protect.

Our three-track structure reflects how we understand the AI development journey. Python and data foundations come first — not rushed, but given enough time to feel natural. Machine learning follows, with an emphasis on the complete workflow: gathering data, cleaning it, choosing a model type, evaluating the result honestly, and iterating. The deep learning track addresses architectures at depth, covering computer vision pipelines and natural language processing methods, with attention to the practical questions of deployment and monitoring that often get skipped in academic-style courses.

We are modest in our ambitions on behalf of learners. We do not tell people they will become AI engineers in six weeks. We tell them they will leave with a working project, an honest understanding of what they know and what they still need to learn, and a clear next step. That has been a reliable foundation for the learners who have completed our programmes and gone on to apply these skills in meaningful ways.

We welcome enquiries from working professionals, career changers, developers adding to their toolkit, and students looking for structured hands-on experience beyond their formal coursework. If you are unsure which track fits, reach out — that conversation is one we enjoy having.
